Types of Grants

MRG Foundation offers several types of grants to community-based groups working for social change across the state of Oregon.

This is the primary emphasis for MRG Foundation's grassroots grantmaking (grants that are made by a committee of volunteer activists). Groups receive funding to support their social change organizing work, and can apply for either general operating expenses and special projects.

If you are a prospective applicant, please go to the Are We Eligible? page to see if your group is eligible to apply for and MRG Foundation grant.

Critical Response Grants provide community-based groups (who match our General Fund criteria) with the additional capacity needed to organize a progressive response to an unexpected crisis or opportunity for organizing.

Travel grants help MRG grantees make national and regional connections and develop the leadership and skills needed for effective organizational development and organizing. You must already have received a grant from MRG to apply for a travel grant.

MRG’s Peace Fund made its final grants in spring 2010 and is no longer making new grants.  This was a 5-year program designed to strengthen Oregon’s peace movement by funding groups for building connections between peace and social justice; drawing new people into the movement; and organizing to direct policy and resources away from war and into peace and social justice.

The fund prioritized work that fosters deep thinking, broad-based leadership development and the cross-organizational collaboration that is necessary for strategic peace movement building.
